PROSH has been running in Western Australia since 1931 (it’s our 76th year!) and recently we've been able to raise more than $100,000 in a single day for charity.
The day itself involves getting dressed up, getting to Uni super early, collecting newspapers and a money tin and selling the papers to the people of Perth. We meet for a procession through the city at 11am, have skits and presentations, then spend all afternoon selling the rest of the papers. In the late afternoon we return the tins to the Guild and then head to the Tav for PROSH Ball (in your costumes) that evening.
The paper that is sold is written by UWA students at a number of Writers’ Nights before the event and, let’s be honest, in the hours before it goes to print. It is a satirical newspaper that takes the mickey out of any and everything in the name of humour and charity.
At the same time, the Uni becomes abuzz with PROSH fever. As Clubs and Faculty Societies plan their floats and skits, there are also publicity hungry stunts all vying for precious media attention (for PROSH) and the Best Stunt prize.
The charities we support vary each year but are always extremely worthy of the Perth People’s hard earned dollars (and all the effort the students put in to get it). If you are not sure whether to PROSH, why not think of the kids with disabilities, the suicidal and despairing, the people suffering from dementia and those suffering or at risk of addictions. You get to have the FUNNEST day of your life and help worthy charities at the same time.

1) It’s been going since 1931 so it must be fun 2) The Uni cancel morning classes because they realise it’s THAT good 3) It’s one of the FUNNEST things you will do in your whole life 4) Thousands of other students will be there and you don’t want to miss out 5) It’s all for CHARITY 6) It’s our 76th year and we want it to be the biggest PROSH ever 7) Telling your grandkids lame stories about how you spent Uni inside a library just won’t impress them. 8) Because we say so. Please. Pretty please. Just do it. |
